I did create my annual goal list for my writing goals this year.

But now, currently going through Margie's Defeat Self-Defeating Behaviour lecture packet, I am working on making a better list - breaking down my goals into specifics that I can achieve over a week, a month, a quarter, rather than just viewing it as a whole and finding it a very daunting job.

I always have huge lists, so it's disappointing when I don't do everything. This year, I am hoping to be more realistic about it.

I love that you reminded me that it is okay not to get everything done on my goals list. I love the fact that you reminded me to prioritize that list. And I love the fact that you look at the list everyday. Powerful suggestions. I think I am going to print and post your blog on my bulletin board, so that when distractions wave their hands for attention, I'll be more discerning.

This is much better idea for me than a new years resolution list! And thanks for the thumbs up about not having to fulfill them all. I am so goals oriented that I would start to get antsy about not achieving them all! Now it will be easier to give myself permission to let it go. Are the goals just writing goals? (Did you say that and I missed it?) Or would those goals be on a different list?

I just bit the bullet and wrote a check for one of my goals: attend a writers' conference every year. Now I can get off of the fence and get excited about the trip!

Thank you Randy, for all your enthusiastic encouragement. My hopes and dreams file gets longer and longer. The latest is "to have no regrets about things left unfinished" ... that is, to finish as much as I can and not expect perfection :-)

Thanks for the reminder that, however much fiction may be a product of the imagination, organization is the way to go in terms of getting projects done. Your post comes early enough in the year, in fact, that it could just make for a tardy new year's resolution, no?

I make goals every year. I suffer from delusions of grandeur, but I've learned to keep my goals attainable because life is such a buttinski.

My big goal is to finish my fantasy novel. I was on schedule a couple of months ago and my writing partner and I came up with a plot change, so I had to go back through what I had so far and make those changes. I'm up to 86,644 words and am shooting for about 115,000. I know it's a lot for a YA novel, but I'm also aware of the size of some books kids are reading now. Still, I know I can tighten up when I'm done. The important thing is to get it written.
