Thanks. I enjoy Chip's column too. I like your positive spin on the economy, and your comment that its the income stream that matters just now. Reassuring, and true.

Do either the Kindle or Sony have speech capability? And, if so, is there a way to vary the rate? After "listening" for over twenty years to do my reading, I listen at a rate that others consider "gibberish". I read Chip's article, very informative. Let me know about speech with these devices. Take care, Barbara

I appreciate the way you give us information about things, such as the Kindle. Thank you so much for your direct approach to educating those who need it - and for your encouragement to yet-unpublished writers to hang in there. Determination and perseverance may be what pushes many over the publication line - with good writing being paramount, of course. I keep reminding myself how many publishers turned down Frank Peretti before he made it.

I also recall quite often my experience at Mt. Hermon - well worth the money. I met Lauraine Snelling there, and was moved by her comment at lunch one day, "I'm living my dream." This year, however, my $$$ is going toward our daughter's wedding. But there's always next year ...

"Or, in my case, I had to get my man out of a dark alley and past three thugs who intended him great bodily harm."

Let me guess. He gives them the sleepy pills.

I like this. It's like playing Cluedo.

I love this latest episode about Sam the Plumber, and the Unblocking of Randy Rooney. Hilarious! Thanks for posting the link as usual. I read every Randy Rooney article.

Thank you, too, for talking about Kindle. This was very informative and helpful to me.

Great post. I think you're right on getting more inexpensive writers (newbies) at this point. Ok, so maybe that's just me hoping...**smile**

I went to my first conference in October (08) and my second in January (09) and learned a lot. I'm anxious to get to the ACFW conference in September too. They are sooo worth it if you can swing the price.

Thanks for the post.

It's not just that I can't access to the Sprint network, it's that I can't buy the Kindle itself! You must have a US credit card and a US delivery address to buy it... :?

I love the idea of writing a Fiction Novel. My interest is in Historical Fiction which I believe would be easier to write. Basing the book off of our histories truth, adding a bit of my own imagination, and using some of your good tips. I hope to one day write a novel as well as my favorite author, David H Jones of "Two Brothers, One North, One South." His book on the American Civil War is unbeatable, but a great goal to shoot for.

Good point that the opportunities are wide open for writers. The economy even gives us fodder to write about!

Since I'm going to be in your mentoring group at Mt. Hermon, this is good news for me! But the idea about it being a good time for new writers to break in seems odd. Wouldn't publishers be hesitant to risk investments on new, untested writers and rather spend their money on writers that already have an established following?
