All hail the Snowflake! The Snowflake rules!

I wrote my forst book without it and it took months longer than it should've. My next 2 books would've been a Grade-A mess without it.

Good luck with your lecture this week. How I wish I could attend!

Snowflake Pro? Are you kidding me? Sign me up! I cannot wait for it! If you just happen to need someone to "test" the software before it is released to the masses, let me know. (Hint-Hint, Nudge Nudge!)

PS: Mentioning a "major new feature" and then not telling us... that's just mean, Randy!

Oh! I forgot the most important part of my comment... THANK YOU for answering my science question! It has given me more confidence to "fool with the rules" a bit.

Randy sez: Be brilliant.

Aha! I should have known. Thanks, Randy. :)

Have a blast at ACFW and don't get suckered into reading any manuscripts on the plane - those people can be a real pain. ;)

Thank you so much for answering my question! I realized that the Snowflake method was probably where my solution lay after I posted my comment. So, you confirmed that and I appreciate it. I also must thank you for pointing out that it can and should be adapted. It doesn't work for what I have in mind as-is, but I should be able to adapt it. Thanks again and have a great conference. I do so wish I could attend too!

Can't wait, won't wait for Snowflake Pro. I want it now! :)

Looking forward to MRUs and I do wish I were going to Minneapolis. I hope the conference is good for you and attendees, despite hurricanes.

You know, FedEx is not FE, perhaps you could try coining a new acronym like PEmEx or PEEx.

OK they look silly, but really? I have to provide my audience with PEE?

LOL!

Have a seriously wonderful time at ACFW. Now that I've finally joined, I'm wishing I could be there even more.

Randy, your response to Martha is especially helpful in thinking about some rewrites I'm working on. Thanks for sharing so freely here!

Randy said, "A goal is often rooted in a character’s backstory."

Light bulb moment! My protag starts off with a selfish goal, then by the end of the book it is all about her family. I knew her backstory and her growth came out of that, but I never made a conscious connection of why her goal should change, but it works! And now I see the reason why, and just in time for ACFW editor meetings!

oops. I just realized I meant GCD, not GCM. I was tatooing my face with a keyboard at the time I posted that question, I think. Goal, Conflict, Disaster. Sorry, Mr. Swain.

For the Question Pile when Randy Returns:

1. Should you be thinking MRU while initially laying down the story? I still get hung up on breaking up the M and the R into separate paragraphs. The more I analyze it, the more it seems to interfere with the flow of story or my voice, if I even have such a thing.

2. MUST all Ms & Rs be separate? In a story with a lot of internal conflict like mine, Motivation and Reaction often occur in the same internal thought, sort of feed off each other. Do some Ms and Rs ever blend together?

Like Amy VR, I would love to beta-test your software. Not only am I a techno-geek who drools over new computer hardware and software, but I know how to find their limitations - usually quite by accident. Yep, are my most-used keys.
