Ooohhhh, I LOVE craigslist. Rates right up there with Garage Sales. (I found a really cool index card holder for all of my notes on Saturday for $0.50! WOOHOO)

Thanks for the answer! This truly is my first time actually pitching my book in person, so I come by it honestly.

Good luck organizing!!

Good to see the earth didn't suck you up or anything. Getting work done? What's that like? And rearranging an office to boot? My hero!

Randy,
I'm glad were talking about getting an agent. That's where I am right now. I've sent my "official" query letter to an agent I found listed in the Children's Writera and Illustrators Market. She's been in the business since 1980, is a member of AAR, represents 50 clients, works 100% with juvenile books and responds in one week to queries. (I hope that last statement is as true as the others.)

Like others, I'm glad you're talking about this. One of the best things an experienced writer ever did for me was sit down and role play an agent meeting.

At some point, I'd love to hear the agent vs. no agent debate here. I get mixed messages from many writers. (Though I'm thinking I'm an agent kind of writer--if I'm any kind of writer at all.)

Also, we missed you! It was good to get the notification in my inbox today. Welcome back.

I have actually started to read "Gone With The Wind." Really! So far, I'm enjoying it. But then, I saw the movie first and that's helping me keep everyone straight. It's a monster of a book, though.

My husband bought me a full-size (second hand) filing cabinet for Christmas a few years ago. He even wrapped it in Christmas wrapping paper and ribbons!

A few years before that he bought me an electric welder.

I was told that I have grounds for divorce, but when I replied that I was really pleased with both presents, my 'advisor' decided that, actually, it was my husband who had grounds for divorce!

Excellent advice on taking notes, Randy: I take notes to any encounter I know is going to be traumatic, make me nervous, including when I go to the doctor. If I know I'm going to be incoherent I tend to 'meander' in conversation, when nervous, for hours on end, if not stopped and say strange things, like "I'm frightened of doors". My doc appreciates my notes, knowing me!

I know I promised to shut up for a month after the 'pink' thing, but I can't. It's a disease. I need help - a 12 step programme perhaps.

Thanks for the feedback, that really helps. I have another question that might not be very likely or maybe it is I am not sure. What if you finish your manuscript and send it to several editors and get interest from two or three. What do you do about that, also if you meet with an editor or agent and you have already sent out letters to other editors should you tell the editor or agent that you have done so?

Thanks,

Tim

What if you do a Ted Dekker thing and walk in with a dozen novels under your armpit? How do you handle that without looking like a geek?

Hi Randy,

Mostly you get it right. But not this time.

It's not Gone With The Wind, it's Dune.
