Good information again! Question: if we already have a blog that is different in name from our personal/professional website name, should we change it? Or just add/move the blog to a link on our own website, like Jane Yolen does at www.JaneYolen.com where she has a journal page?

Randy--

Here's a question about domain names that I've wondered about for a couple of years and its kept me from registering one:

My first name has an apostrophe in it which, obviously, can't be used in the domain name. Which would seem more logical for people to find me: to use my name without the apostrophe or to use initials in front of my last name?

I've always liked that my name was different for name ID among readers, but I don't want to confuse readers when they look for me on the web. (Of course, this is someday, when I'm published!)

Any insight or advice on this issue would be greatly appreciated!

I have been with GoDaddy for many years for all my domain/email/web needs, but have been slowly switching to DreamHost over the last two years due to a better deal and my brother being a satisfied customer (he has numerous domains with them). When my domain renewal comes due in March I will renew with DreamHost and no longer have anything with GoDaddy. DreamHost includes privacy in their $9.95 price.

Thanks Randy. This is really useful information. I don't have a blog, or a real web site, but I'm thinking I should, and you're making it seem like it's something I can do and afford. Looking forward to more...

Because of comments here about DreamHost -- and my need to find a cheaper domain name cost (Register.com wants $35 a year to renew one I am holding onto) -- I decided to do a web search about DreamHost. The following link does not have good news about the site. Not sure if this is true for all their customers.

Hi Randy,
my question may be repeated, sorry if I'm slow.
I have a ministry website, ministry blog and writers blog.

I have been thinking of merging the ministry website and blog into one and keeping the writing blog separate.

I have go daddy, and will be switchng over to them for my blogs. I understand they can support wordpress themes. I don't like the go daddy themes.

Would it be safe to have one webiste/blog with perhaps a separte blog for writing?

Thank you.

Thanks for the great tips, Randy.

I use DotEasy's free hosting option for my editing Web site, www.InspirationalEditor.com, and I'm happy with it. They also offer paid hosting at a low rate, with great features. An integrated blog is free. My techno-whiz husband built the site, but for those of us who are tech-nots, there are plenty of free templates available.

Though I don't have a need for an author site right now, I recently registered the domain name for it—there are several other Susan Lohrers out there. No porn stars by that name, though. Whew!

Dear Randy
On this subject, I have a dilemma that I would like feedback on. I'm going to be setting up my web site again (took it down last year for various reasons). I will want it under my own name this time. However, I lie awake at nights wondering whether people will read 'Ann Isik.com' as 'Ann is Sick.com'! Is this dilemma all in my own mind? Does it matter anyway?
