The optimal time for a 24 hour special is 24 hours and a 48 hour special should run 48 hours .

I would change your question to: "What is the optimum length of time for running a initial launch special?"

Otherwise, you're going to get a "huh?" answer.

Every damn serious person (that can use his credit card on your secure site) checks his email at least once a day. A day is the maximum time difference worldwide. A 24hr special will reach most people and give them very short time to hesitate, and that is better!
